Our Patient & Their Concerns

Dr. Pooja, Pediatric Dentist at Magnum Clinic, Dubai, has operated on a 7-year-old girl with a severe toothache in her lower right jaw to extract the pulp painlessly. Using soft behavioral control and the most developed pediatric endodontic care, an infected tooth was managed and restored with a Biolex crown, which enabled it to act as a normal tooth until it exfoliated naturally.

Patient Background

The patient is a 7-year-old Indian school-going child presenting with complaints of pain in her lower right back tooth. Her father and mother needed a child-friendly dental clinic in Dubai to help her enjoy a stress-free environment and feel at ease.

A clinical assessment presented a severely decayed primary mandibular molar #T with percussion tenderness. The radiograph of IOPAR reveals pulp involvement with furcation radiolucency, an irreversible pulpitis. The family chose Magnum Clinic because of its expertise in children's dentistry, considering that it emphasizes painless dental procedures for children

Diagnosis & Treatment Plan

Diagnosis: Periapical in Tooth T- Irreversible Pulpitis: Which means the nerve inside the tooth is badly inflamed and the infection has reached the tip of the root. It will not heal on its own.

Treatment Plan:

This procedure aims to remove the infection, relieve pain, and restore the tooth’s function. The infected pulp will be cleaned, disinfected, and sealed to prevent reinfection, followed by a durable restoration that maintains space for the upcoming permanent tooth.

  • The treatment will include a pulpectomy procedure, which removes the infection and later saves the tooth.
  • The canals are cleaned and shaped using pediatric rotary files (16 mm).
  • The canals will be sealed with a resorbable Metapex paste.
  • Final restoration will be done with a preformed Biolex crown for durability and strength.
  • This was to alleviate pain, rehabilitate oral function, and preserve space where a permanent successor tooth would be placed.

Procedure Details

Dr. Pooja started with the Tell-Show-Do technique to relax the child and make them less anxious. Local anesthesia was done through an inferior alveolar nerve block after the application of the topical anesthetic gel. After the area became completely numb, she meticulously debrided it and evaluated the pulp chamber.

The pulp was extirpated, the canals dried out and were shaped with pediatric rotary files, and they were then profusely irrigated. The canals were then dried off carefully and filled with Metapex obturating paste, which safely resorbs with time.

An artificial Biolex crown of pre-made shape was cemented to the tooth: this guaranteed safety, reduction of chewing, and durability. The whole process took place during two sessions, which were about 45 minutes.

Close attention was paid to vital signs; the child felt comfortable and demonstrated high cooperation.

Outcome & Follow-up

The resultant effect was a huge success. After the initial visit, the child felt pain relief and soon returned to normal eating preferences. Radiographs and post-treatment evaluation established adequate canal obturation and healing. When the one-week follow-up was done, the treated tooth was asymptomatic and functional. The parents were fully satisfied with the gentle nature of Dr. Pooja, as it was mostly a painless and pleasant experience when their daughter was introduced to the dentist in Dubai.
